Nature’s Laws Institute
A registered Canadian non-profit
This website is currently under construction and content will be updated soon.
Our mission is two-fold:
1. To document and share, through research and education, Indigenous values, customs, and norms described by Western Cree as Nature’s Laws; and
2. To apply these ‘laws that are lived’ to contemporary legal issues and societal problems, in order to support the health and healing of the human and natural world.
This mission responds to critical needs evident in the suffering of Indigenous peoples, who are over-represented across systems that react to symptoms rather than root issues and human needs.
The Nature’s Laws Institute advances its mission in four connected ways:
01
Working with Indigenous communities, institutions and governments to document and share their unique articulations and understandings of Nature’s Laws;
02
Cultivating transformative dialogue on foundational norms and values between Indigenous Nature’s Laws and other Natural Law traditions for health and healing based on peacefulness, solidarity, harmony, kinship, and reciprocity between all living beings and the natural world;
03
Developing, nurturing and maintaining ethical relationships and healing spaces;
04
Securing and developing resources, tools and programs that advance this mission, with a focus on six flagship programs.
